- To understand what textual and documentary sources are, and their relevance for Art History.
- To familiarize students with different types of sources and how to use them in diverse research contexts.
- To approach textual and visual sources for a deeper understanding of the work of art within its historical and chronological context.
- To learn how to read textual and visual sources in a critical way and to work with them in an interdisciplinary fashion
- To learn how to integrate textual and documentary sources in the art historical analysis.
- To train the students in source-treatment and art historical writing applied to art historical research.
- To encourage students to become familiar with other disciplines related to Art History (palaeography, codicology, epigraphy, numismatics, etc.)

1) To understand what textual, documentary or visual 鈥渟ources鈥 are, as well as the vocabulary and conceptual tools related to source criticism.
2) To become familiar with different methodological approaches to the work of art, in its historical, artistic, theoretical or aesthetic dimensions.
3) To learn how to apply the critical analysis of sources to art historical research, and to work in an interdisciplinary fashion
4) To learn how to use different kind of sources in an integrated analysis of the work of art
5) To analyze specific literary texts inspired by artworks studied in the degree, so as to provide students with a richer and integrated approach to artistic phenomena.
The student will:
CT-1 鈥 Acquire basic skills for the critical reading of texts and documents and how to use them
for research purposes.
CT-2 鈥 Learn to how to write and speak about art historical issues in a professional way.
CT-3 鈥 Learn how to use the suitable terminology.
In order to facilitate the learning process, different modalities of teaching will be displayed:
- Lectures (in the classroom) for the explanation of the theoretical contents of the course.
- Interactive seminars (in the classroom) for activities intended to stimulate student participation, around both theoretical and more practical issues.
- The Virtual 奇趣腾讯分分彩 platform will be used for providing students with guidelines and working materials.
- Fieldwork in archives, libraries and relevant monuments in the city of Santiago de Compostela will be arranged throughout the course, as well as a study trip (in Spain) if additional funding is provided to this end.
- Tuituion hours.
Evaluation is continuous and cumulative:
1. EVALUATION ON THE CONTENTS OF THE LECTURES (THEORETICAL)
The written examination will entail the 60 % of the total mark (6 points). Students should get a mark over 3 in the exam to be able to sum the mark of the interactive seminars, otherwise they should take the second chance exam in July.
2 EVALUATION OF THE INTERACTIVE SEMINARS.
Attendance and participation in the discussions, commentaries and practical activities scheduled will suppose the 40% of the total mark (4 points). Students should get a mark over 2 in the seminars and fieldwork to be able to sum the mark of the written exam. Otherwise, students under the minimal mark of 2 points should answer a few questions about the interactive seminars and fieldwork in the second chance exam in July.
This evaluation system will in place for both the May and July evaluation periods.
3. EVALUATION OF THE COMPULSORY READING.
The evaluation arrangement related to the compulusory reading (VASARI, G., Las vidas de los m谩s excelentes arquitectos, pintores y escultores italianos, desde Cimabue a nuestros tiempos, ed. L. Bellosi y A. Rossi, Madrid, C谩tedra, 2011) will be devised and explained by the instructors in the classroom.
4. EVALUATION FOR STUDENTS WITH AN OFFICIAL WAIVER OF ATTENDANCE: Following the Instruction N潞 1/2017 of Secretar铆a Xeral, students who are exempt from attendance under certain circumstances will be evaluated with a specific final exam (100%). Exemption from attendance must be authorized in advance by the university.
Classwork: 50 h.
30 h. theoretical sessions, 15 h. interactive sessions, 5 h. tuitions
Homework: 100 h.
-Personal study at home: 60 h.
-Readings: 25 h.
-Preparation of oral presentations, seminars: 8 h.
-Others: 7 h.
